AVG Ultimate Review 2026: Antivirus, VPN and TuneUp in One Bundle

8 min read Updated October 4, 2026 Antivirus Reviews

Fix it now

AVG Ultimate is four applications sold on one subscription with one renewal date, and the Multi-Device version covers up to ten devices at once. It is good value when you would use at least two of the components; it is poor value when you buy it for the antivirus and never open the rest.

  1. Buy it if you were going to pay for AVG’s security suite anyway and would genuinely use a VPN on more than one device.
  2. Buy it if you are covering a household of mixed machines and phones, because ten seats across four platforms on one renewal is simpler than four separate subscriptions.
  3. Buy it if you want AntiTrack, which is bundled on Windows and Mac and is otherwise a separate purchase.
  4. Skip it if you already pay for a VPN you like. Paying twice for the same function is the usual way people lose money on bundles.
  5. Skip it if every machine you own is modern and healthy, because TuneUp has the least to do on exactly that hardware.
  6. Check the platform mix before buying. The Android and iOS packages are not the same applications as the Windows one.

Each application installs and uninstalls separately, and you can activate only the ones you want on a given device.

If that settles it you can stop here. If you want to know what each component actually does and where the bundle stops making sense, read on.

Why it happens

Ultimate is a licence rather than a product. Buying it gives you a subscription that activates a set of AVG applications, and the set depends on the platform. On Windows it is AVG Internet Security, AVG TuneUp, AVG Secure VPN and AVG AntiTrack. On Mac it is the same four with TuneUp Premium in place of TuneUp. On Android it is AVG AntiVirus, AVG Cleaner Premium and AVG Secure VPN. On iOS it is AVG Secure VPN and AVG Mobile Security.

That per-platform difference matters more than the marketing suggests, and it is the first thing to check against your own device list. A household with two Windows laptops and four phones is buying a substantially different bundle from one with four Windows machines, and the phone-heavy household gets neither Internet Security nor TuneUp.

The components are genuinely separate applications with their own installers, their own interfaces and their own background services. You can install only the ones you want on a given device and uninstall any of them individually, which is worth doing rather than deploying all four everywhere out of a sense of having paid for them. Three or four applications means three or four sets of notifications, and the default settings in all of them are talkative.

The security component is the one with a real job. AVG Internet Security brings an Enhanced Firewall, Webcam Protection, protection against scam and fake websites, Password Defense with alerts about leaked passwords, a Data Shredder and a Wi-Fi Inspector for unsafe networks. Judge the bundle on this, because it is the part that is doing security work.

The other three are conveniences, and it is worth being blunt about that. A VPN changes the path your traffic takes; it does not stop malware, make a phishing page safe or patch an unpatched machine. TuneUp has no detection engine at all. AntiTrack reduces browser tracking, much of which modern browsers already resist. None of them is a security product, whatever the packaging around them implies.

On who is behind it: AVG says it is part of Gen, the group that also owns Avast, and AVG’s own privacy documentation names Avast Software as the controller for AVG products. Treat AVG and Avast as one supplier with two front ends, and choose between their bundles on components, device count and interface rather than on any assumed difference in protection.

Full reference

What arrives on each platform

Platform Applications the subscription activates
Windows AVG Internet Security, AVG TuneUp, AVG Secure VPN, AVG AntiTrack
Mac AVG Internet Security, AVG TuneUp Premium, AVG Secure VPN, AVG AntiTrack
Android AVG AntiVirus, AVG Cleaner Premium, AVG Secure VPN
iOS AVG Secure VPN, AVG Mobile Security

How many devices, and which variant

Subscription Coverage
AVG Ultimate (Multi-Device) Up to 10 devices simultaneously, on the platforms of your choice
AVG Mobile Ultimate Android only, up to 5 devices
AVG Windows Ultimate Windows only, one device

Three names, three very different products. The one most people mean by Ultimate is the Multi-Device subscription, and it is the only one of the three that makes the household argument work. AVG Windows Ultimate covering a single machine is a reasonable purchase for one PC and a poor substitute if you expected ten seats.

Would you still be using each part in six months

Component What it is for Honest expectation
AVG Internet Security Malware, web, firewall, password and network protection Yes. This is the reason to buy the bundle
AVG Secure VPN An encrypted tunnel and a different apparent location Only if you travel, use public networks, or want another location
AVG TuneUp Cleaning, background app suspension, third-party updating On an older or memory-starved machine, yes. On a current one, rarely
AVG AntiTrack Reducing browser tracking and fingerprinting Sometimes. Browser-level protections already cover part of this

Who should buy which

  • A household with a mix of Windows machines, Macs and phones: the Multi-Device subscription, and install only what each device needs.
  • One Windows PC, one user, and no interest in a VPN: AVG Internet Security on its own rather than any Ultimate variant.
  • Someone who already pays for a specialist VPN: the security suite alone, because the bundle’s VPN duplicates something you are already buying.
  • An Android-only household: AVG Mobile Ultimate is the variant that fits, at five devices rather than ten.
  • Anyone whose main problem is one slow old laptop: buy TuneUp for that machine and leave the bundle alone.

Practical notes before you commit

  • Auto-renewal is on by default across this market, and introductory terms and renewal terms are set separately. Read both before you buy rather than after.
  • Confirm what your specific offer includes. Bundle composition is a commercial decision and it has changed over time.
  • Spend ten minutes after installation turning down notifications in each application. It is the difference between a bundle you forget about and one you uninstall in irritation.
  • Do not install all four applications on every device by default. Seats are counted per device, not per application, so restraint costs you nothing.

When a licence is the actual fix

AVG Ultimate 2026 makes sense when you would have bought the security suite anyway and at least one of the other three answers a need you can describe in a sentence. Arco supplies AVG Ultimate 2026 licences, and the useful part of that conversation is the device count and the platform mix: ten seats across Windows, Mac, Android and iOS is a genuinely different proposition from the Windows-only or Android-only variants, and the phone packages are not the same applications as the desktop one. If you already pay for a VPN, or every machine in the house is modern, we would rather sell you AVG Internet Security on its own than a bundle you will not open.

Questions people ask about this

How many devices does it actually cover?

AVG states that the Multi-Device subscription can be activated on up to ten devices simultaneously, on whichever platforms you choose. The other two variants are narrower: AVG Mobile Ultimate covers up to five Android devices, and AVG Windows Ultimate is limited to one Windows device. Check which of the three you are being sold, because the names are similar and the coverage is not.

Can I install just the antivirus and ignore the rest?

Yes. The applications have separate installers, you can activate all or only some of them on a given platform, and you can uninstall any of them individually. Your subscription still covers the others, so adding the VPN later if you find you want it costs nothing extra.

Do I get the same thing on my phone as on my laptop?

No. The Windows and Mac packages are built around AVG Internet Security with TuneUp, Secure VPN and AntiTrack. Android gets AVG AntiVirus, AVG Cleaner Premium and Secure VPN, and iOS gets Secure VPN and AVG Mobile Security only. If most of your devices are phones, work out what that actually gives you before deciding the bundle is good value.

Is AVG the same as Avast?

They are the same company. AVG describes itself as part of Gen, the group that also owns Avast, and AVG’s own privacy documentation names Avast Software as the controller for AVG products. Choose between their bundles on components, device count and which interface you prefer, rather than on an assumed difference in protection between the two brands.
